Miscellaneous vs OtherOver the past few months, we've been diligently working on cleaning up the category tree of old and unused categories. While most of this will go unnoticed by the community, what you will notice is the change from "Miscellaneous" galleries to "Other". The reason for this change is simple. The concept of Miscellaneous leads one to believe that it's a junk drawer category for everything under the sun when the intention was to be an "Other" category for deviations that don't fit well in other sub-categories of the tree. We're also working on u
Everyday we're CV'ingAs a Community Volunteer - I do as much or as little within the community that I feel comfortable doing. We're not pressured to do this and that, we don't even have to give a Daily Deviation every day, we choose how we promote our selected galleries/chats and forums and we're not fixed to any specific rule on how much or how little we do. But I do believe that it's important to share with you just what the community volunteers do and why we do it. More importantly it's so easy to get lost on this site full of many people - and miss out on the awesome that's going on. So I'm going to share with you exactly what the latest awesome is... Project Educate Almost every week since October last year the Community Volunteers have been working hard both independently and as part of small teams to bring You Project Educate.Project Educate is about bringing forward art forms whether they are popular or overlooked and giving
Thoughts about Photography - part 3In here you will find a few examples of works specific to different types of Photography, followed by various artists' opinion about what they think it's most important regarding their art and how to make it. You will come to see that while on some types of Photography many artists have similar opinions, on others their thoughts differ a lot, so read them all carefully and enjoy the article! - `lintu47Darkroom~pestilence says: "Photography, combined from the Greek words, Φώτο - γράφω, writing with light, as the above sentence suggests the pure essence of photography is light, without light there can be no photography. I have been asked many times what are the details of a good capture, what are the elements that compose a good pictur
Project Educate: Classic Portrait PhotographyClassic Portraits are Photographs of people in traditional pose. These are often formal, refined and restrained in style. As you will see within the Gallery they often involve a plain and simple background which is a popular feature of Classic Portraiture. One of the most notable things within the Classic Portrait Photography Gallery is that there are a lot of art nudes. This actually occurs across the board with People & Portraits and I cannot stress enough - that if your work features nudity, it belongs within the artistic nude gallery! Conversion to black and white with concentration on bringing out tones and shadows creates that timeless classic look and is often favoured by the elite artists that submit to the People & Portraits - Classic Gallery. Whilst D-SLR's have a monochrome function, for the most part (mine h

Celebrating Diversity #13In this issue of Celebrating Diversity, I would like to remind you of an amazing feeling...when you see a piece of art created in a medium or genre that you have little or no experience of working in, and it feels like you're witnessing something magical, something beyond your comprehension. It's wonderful to revel in the joy of How do they do that? and find inspiration in the creations of other artists. So I challenge you to take a step outside of the galleries that you regularly browse and immerse yourself in the experience of indulging in something new.How do you celebrate diversity? Do you regularly browse, comment on and collect art that's wildly different from what you create? Do you watch artists who use mediums that you don't use in your own

Celebrating Diversity #16What is art? I can assure you that the answer I've chosen for myself is probably not the answer that works for you. Regardless of the differences our backgrounds and experiences bring to the table there are some universals that pop up across media and eras and what have you. This time, I've chosen 16 pieces that somehow incorporate the human form. Celebrating Diversity #1-15 found here:#1#2#3

Celebrating Diversity #3Hello, everyone! When we don't see enough of a particular art form, it is difficult for us to understand or appreciate it. This project aims to bring you features that you might not have seen otherwise from a variety of galleries around dA. For example, I tend to live and breathe photomanipulations and (to a lesser extent) digital art, and I really enjoyed taking a moment to browse the non-photomanipulation galleries for treasures. I found many, and I hope you will enjoy the features I have chosen.Jade (^SanguineVamp)These are the things I love::bigthumb153843440::bigthumb18971
Digital Art Feature - Fantasy."Fantasy art is a genre of art that depicts magical or other supernatural themes, ideas, creatures or settings. While there is some overlap with science fiction, horror and other speculative fiction art, there are unique elements not generally found in other forms of speculative fiction art. Depictions of ancient myths and legends, as well as depictions of modern day fantasy in the form of divine interventions and other magical or supernatural forces, are very common elements, and help distinguish fantasy art from other forms. Dragons, wizards, fairies and other fantastical and mythical creatures are common features in fantasy art." - Wikipedia.Question for the readersWho are the most influential digital fantasy artists of our time, in your opini
Photography Weekly: Edition FortyPhotography Weekly Header created by ~TouchedD"Replace Fear of the Unknown with Curiosity..." As the year crawls into the final quarter - lots of challenges and daily photo tasks and so on begin to conclude. I have personally been challenging myself with the 365 Photography challenge - a photo a day for a whole year. It has been tricky to say the least, especially as I set myself a high standard of capturing more than one Photo a day - but also rewarding. Setting yourself a challenge, whether it's following the 52 week photography challenges that are out there, or doing a themed challenge such as 365 breakfasts - is a great way of expanding on your portfolio. Whilst it sometimes means that you struggle to find anything interesting to photograph or share, on the days that you do, you're one step closer to building another aspect of your portfolio.Next week in Photography Troubleshooting - we will be looking at Money Matters and so
