I've been following UK Storm Chasers on facebook who have been documenting the arrival of the 'demon child of Nadine' as it has been deemed. Hurricane Nadine is still out there in the Atlantic Ocean spinning around and preparing to send the UK another demon child (which is really just a tropical storm to us) and with it comes a plethora of opportunities to snap some stunning skies and horizons. "Replace Fear of the Unknown with Curiosity..."
As the year crawls into the final quarter - lots of challenges and daily photo tasks and so on begin to conclude. I have personally been challenging myself with the 365 Photography challenge - a photo a day for a whole year. It has been tricky to say the least, especially as I set myself a high standard of capturing more than one Photo a day - but also rewarding. Setting yourself a challenge, whether it's following the 52 week photography challenges that are out there, or doing a themed challenge such as 365 breakfasts - is a great way of expanding on your portfolio. Whilst it sometimes means that you struggle to find anything interesting to photograph or share, on the days that you do, you're one step closer to building another aspect of your portfolio.

Cave Paintings: The Birth of IllustrationCave paintings are the root of traditional illustration, one the earliest of which has been in recent news, a 'faint red dot' dated to more than 40,000 years ago. These were discovered in 11 caves in Spain, and results show that they are at least 15,000 years older than we first thought. It raises many questions; What are they trying to say? Who made it? Is it symbolic? Who was it made for?
No matter what the answers are, illustration is a means for people to convey information, a means of visual communication. The purpose of these cave paintings are unknown, and we can only speculate as to their actual purpose. A time well before printing press, but the value of visual communication has lasted through the ages. One thing that is for sure is it was some sort of communication via visual aids, they had a purpose and had something to say.

While on my Holiday vacation in Grants Pass Oregon to visit my parents and grandmother I ventured into a local comic shop. It was a really nice comic shop and had quiet a selection. I was browsing one of the isles when I came across not one but two comics side by side from Anthro artists here on DA! It's pretty amazing and a humbling experience when you stumble across artists work from DeviantART out in the real world! Especially artists you've been following for years! Congrats you two on your accomplishments and sharing your talent and imagination with the rest of us!

The comics I came across are "Lackadaisy" by *tracyjb and "Nordguard - Book One - Across Thin Ice" by *screwbald and Tess Garman !

A glimpse into Baroque Art

♕ Introduction:

Baroque is an art movement from the 17th century, that resulted from the religious wars of the Protestant Reformation and the Catholic Counter Reformation. Religious faith reached an emotional height and the intense feeling, which inspired both faiths, produced a rich expression in art.

The term baroque implies a certain roughness, and the stormy paintings and dramatic music of the Baroque period often possessed the rugged torment of emotion. The French used the word "Baroque" to mean "a painting in which the rules of proportion are not observed and everything is represented according to the artist's whim." In the 17th century, art was naturalistic rather than ideal, and emotional rather than rational-art of movement, vitality, and brilliant color. Subjects could be chosen from daily life, as well as antiquity and the Bible, and presented to achieve maximum emotional impact or intense observation.

♕ Characteristics:

♠ Baroque art is usually characterized by the dramatic contrasts of light and shade.

♠ Mythological subjects and decorative compositions of weighty forms in dynamic movement.
♠ Free application of paint and light effects for greater emotional and psychological insight.
♠ Portraits have a somber and brooding quality.
